I rarely watch the news, but often catch the weather, especially when there is something big; like hurricane season, or winter. By checking the amazing weather tracker maps you can see a predicted path of a storm. This is when I look for islands to see if they might be hit. Of course, there are tourist spots; we think about another vacation and wonder if it will be there. More often we think with great concern of our parish in Haiti.
They have been hit by hurricanes, earthquakes, lots and lots of rain and they still are there. How do they do it? How can we help?
They are the poorest of the poor. What did Father Jack say the median yearly salary was, $450 and that is only if they have a paying job. How do they do it? How can we help?
They are a resilient people. They have faith, joy and hope in their lives. How do they do it? How can we help? And do they by their example lead us to these gifts of faith, joy and hope?
I have never been to Haiti. I doubt I will travel to Haiti; yet I feel so connected. When our travel team returns each year and shares stories about, our parish in Haiti I feel they are talking about family.
We are all related yet, different. I thank God every day for the gifts She personalized just for me and even more for the gifts God personalized for you. You see since we all have different gifts we can accomplish so much together.
Fall; time of harvest, time of “back to school”. Let us share our bountiful “harvest” and encourage our Haitian families in their education efforts.

I feel “interconnected”, with a greater community and it is good. We need each other.

I have never been to Haiti, but I am part of their community as they are part of mine.
