Even in these difficult times in Haiti the students are back in school. Father Eddy tells us that the challenges and dangers in the larger cities in Haiti has meant an increase in students in the village chapel schools from 4,500 to over 6,000 for this school year.
Our Fall fundraising to support education in our sister parish has begun. You will see the teacher and student pictures up on our walls again. Please watch in the All Saints bulletins and on the All Saints Facebook page for more reflections and stories about our sister parish Notre Dame de Lourdes.
Father Jack asked us in his homily a few weeks ago to reflect on how we can acknowledge the challenges, sorrows, and joys of others when we listen to them and as we do so we share in their experiences. As we offer support for education in our sister parish, we are taking action to ease their very real challenges, to share their experiences and offering to be present with them from a distance.
Here is a message from Father Eddy sent earlier this summer:
Dear friends of the Sister Parish (Iowa)
Many thanks for your letter of support, for your prayers. Thank you for all that you have done for Haiti especially Belle Fontaine. Frankly without your participation in education a lot of young people would not make it. Some of them are doctors, agronomists, nurses, engineers to name a few. We always say true friends are rare, fortunately Father Antonio met you and brought you to the parish of Belle Fontaine. We never stop praising God for this beautiful meeting. We will always be grateful for your generosity and greatness of soul. May the Lord continue to bless us and may he shine on the Haitian people the light of the Holy Spirit.
Your brother
Jean Eddy
Your donation of $150, or whatever you can offer, helps give the children of Notre Dame du Lourdes a future.
